like rockstars rolling into town, apple presented their latest products to a thunderous applause at the bill graham civic auditorium in san francisco, california. all together they launched four devices: the ‘iPad pro’, a refreshed apple TV, ‘iPhone 6S’ and ‘6S plus’, and an Hermès collaboration that sees new apple watch faces. the presentation featured CEO tim cook, and his cast of apple executives, detailing all the products including availability and price points. in long established apple fashion, the keynote also involved videos of chief design officer, jonathan ive highlighting design facets.

‘iPad pro’ and accessories

to attract artists, creatives and business alike apple introduced 12.9 inch ‘retina’ display ‘iPad pro’. the new larger tablet is thing and light and provides ten hour battery life. the screen, with its 5.6 million pixels, incorporates a refined multi touch technology and variable refresh rate to control power usage. included inside the unibody anodized aluminum enclosure are four speakers to provide clear stereo sound.

along with the new ‘iPad pro’, apple ushered in the ‘pencil’. a precision input device available for purchase separately, which makes drawing and sketching natural. the display takes into account the ‘pencil’ to reduce latency and deliver accuracy for activities like fine art illustration and detailed 3D design. sensors inside measure both pressure and tilt for a fast and fluid drawing experience, while a built in ‘lightning’ connect makes for quick and easy pairing and charging.

another accessory was the ‘smart keyboard’, which extends the utility of ‘iPad pro’, offering a full sized keyboard in a thin, durable design. it attaches to tablet’s latest ‘smart connector’ port, eliminating the need for a separate battery, on/off switch or bluetooth pairing. the accessory is covered in a woven fabric and features keys stability and satisfying key feel of standard keyboard, but is also easily foldable and can transform into a ‘smart cover’.

apple also focused on the living room, where families come together to watch movies, television and play games. the fresh apple tv is built from the ground up with high performance hard and introduces an intuitive user interface using the ‘siri remote’. the operating system ‘tvOS’ is based the on popular iOS, enabling developers to bring new apps and games specifically for the television directly from the apple tv app store.

the ‘siri remote’ simplifies how users select, scroll and navigate through content using a a glass touch surface that handles both small, accurate movements as well as big, sweeping ones. with ‘siri’ users can search tv shows and movies by title, genre, cast, crew, rating or popularity. the apple tv will search ‘iTunes’ and popular apps from netflix, hulu, HBO and showtime, displaying all the ways the resulting tv shows and movies can be played. the voice activation offers playback control and on screen navigation, as well as quick access to sports, stock and weather information.

traditionally, around this time apple upgrades their ‘iPhones’ as well. this time they kept the exterior shell the same and changed everything inside. the advanced ‘iPhone’ pioneers ‘3D touch’, which senses force to enable intuitive new ways to access features and interact with content. this provides shortcuts to the things users do most, so sending messages or taking selfies can be just done with a simple press from the home screen. the wildly used camera has been bumped to a 12 megapixel back facing sensor as well as a five megapixel sensor facing forward. the innovative sensors can record in 4K resolution as well as create a new format of photos called ‘live photos’. the new medium adds motion to a snapshot with just a press, revealing the moments immediately before and after the shot was taken. ‘iPhone 6s’ and ‘6s plus’ are made from the strongest glass on any smartphone and 7000 series aluminum, the same alloy used in the aerospace industry, comes in the same colors but also includes a new rose gold finish.

apple and hermès have come together to showcase apple watches in stainless steel and fine crafted leather bands in distinctive styles, including the single tour, double tour and cuff, while respecting the design and functionality of the watch. ‘apple and hermès make very different products, but they reflect the deep appreciation of quality design,’ describes jonathan ive, apple’s chief design officer. ‘both companies are motivated by a sincere pursuit of excellence and the desire to create something that is not compromised. apple watch hermès is a true testament to that belief.’
