after the official unveiling, apple has also announced that iPhone 6 users will be able to use their devices at the cash register in order to pay for everyday purchases. the feature is called apple pay, and has been developed to change how you pay with breakthrough contactless payment technology and unique security features built right into the devices you have with you every day. using an NFC antenna, apple’s touchID and passbook, users can utilize their iPhone 6 or apple watch to pay in an easy, secure, and private way. ‘this whole process is based on this little piece of plastic, whether its a credit or debit card,’ tim cook said on stage during the event in california. ‘we’re totally reliant on the exposed numbers, and the outdated and vulnerable magnetic interface, which by the way is five decades old, and the security codes which all of us know aren’t so secure.’

users will also be able to pay with their apple watch — just double-click the button below the digital crown and hold the face of the smartwatch near the contactless reader. a gentle pulse and beep confirm that your payment information was sent. with the payment system, all payments are made private. none of the details of any transactions are stored, so they can’t be tied back to you. most recent purchases are kept in passbook for convenience, but that’s as far as it goes. since you don’t have to show your credit or debit card, users never have to reveal their name, card number or security code to the cashier when paying in store. this additional layer of privacy helps ensure that all payment information stays secured.

paying in stores happens in one natural motion — there’s no need to open an app or even wake your display thanks to the innovative near field communication antenna in iPhone 6. to pay, just hold your iPhone near the contactless reader with your finger on touch ID. you don’t even have to look at the screen to know your payment information was successfully sent. a subtle vibration and beep lets you know.
