j.laverack aston martin .1R debuts as titanium bicycle forged with carbon fiber & aluminum

Meet the J.Laverack Aston Martin’s .1R bicycle

What the world’s first boltless bicycle is that no bolts, screws, or attachments at the headset, seat clamp, calipers, or bottle cage of the bicycle are visible in any way. The J.Laverack Aston Martin’s .1R bicycle does just that, aiming to take home the title for their hypercar-on-two-wheels ride. Aston Martin and British titanium bicycle leader J.Laverack pair up to produce the boltless bicycle, coupling it with several other metals and features such as 3D-printed aerospace-grade titanium lugs and sculpted carbon fiber tubes. The J.Laverack Aston Martin’s .1R bicycle also incorporates what may be the world’s first integrated brake calipers, as the duo claims.

Each caliper in the hypercar-styled bike by Aston Martin and J.Laverack is precision-machined from a single block of aluminum and features four titanium pistons for modulation and control when the biker descends from steep hills. On top of this, each titanium stem is 3D-printed and adorned with the intricate stainless steel Aston Martin recognizable wings logo. It is attached to the frame without visible bolts, completely hiding away the brake hoses. The 3D-printed titanium stem also fits with the carbon fiber handlebars, and Aston Martin and J.Laverack employ the same technique applied to the front splitter of a Formula One car.

The J.Laverack Aston Martin’s .1R bicycle’s frame is generated in the same studios as Aston Martin’s cars, and the bicycle’s shapes were first digitized using computer programs before being modeled in real-life by artisans experienced at turning digital works into real-life 3D forms. The aerospace-grade titanium lugs strike a good strength-to-weight-ratio balance and are 3D-printed in 30-micron layers. The .1R road bicycle is finished in the same herringbone-patterned carbon fiber as the Aston Martin Valkyrie, and its graphics are 40 microns thick – which is half the thickness of a human hair – and are crafted from stainless steel by the same specialist who makes the Aston Martin Valkyrie badge.

Full customization for J.Laverack Aston Martin’s .1R bicycle

Bikers who want to own a piece of the J.Laverack Aston Martin’s .1R bicycle will be invited to Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon so they can do a full custom fitting with the founders of J.Laverack. They can choose the exact same color palettes and trim choices available on Aston Martin’s cars if they want to. Full customization is on the table, as Aston Martin and J.Laverack say the bikers can specify their saddle, handlebar tape, and the color of the tubes, lugs, forks, stem, seat post, and handlebar drops. It is optional too that the carbon fiber can be left bare to show off the raw material. Accents such as the bottom bracket cups, brake calipers, and brake disc centers have a ceramic coating that can be picked out in bronze or muted in black.

For owners who want to buy a custom J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R bicycle, every bike and its parts like the hubs, cranks, and frame get their own numbers which means that they are all part of a limited series, and each one is distinct. They will also receive a custom case with the bike, either made of aluminum or carbon fiber. The case serves two purposes: it’s not only for transporting .1R bike but also for displaying it when they are not riding it. Inside the case, they will find a track pump, which matches the bike and has handles covered with materials like Alcantara or leather. As of publishing the story, the J.Laverack Aston Martin .1R bicycle is up for pre-reservation.
