Audi introduces the Nuvolari, its first-ever supercar powered by a high-performance hybrid system and the most powerful production vehicle in the history of the four rings. Revealed in Antibes, France, the limited-edition model combines Formula 1-derived engineering with a lightweight carbon architecture, delivering 1,001 PS and a top speed exceeding 350 km/hr. Limited to 499 units worldwide, the Audi Nuvolari is scheduled to enter production in 2027.

 

Named after legendary Italian racing driver Tazio Nuvolari, the vehicle marks a new chapter for the German automaker as it prepares to enter Formula 1 as a factory team. The project also serves as the first production model to embody Audi’s evolving design language, pairing a sculpted mid-engine silhouette with active aerodynamic systems and advanced electrification technologies.

At the heart of the supercar is a hybrid powertrain producing a combined 736 kW (1,001 PS). A 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine generating 800 horsepower works alongside three axial flux electric motors, each contributing 110 kW. Two electric motors mounted at the front axle provide torque vectoring capabilities, while a third motor positioned between the engine and transmission supports acceleration and energy recovery.

 

The setup enables the Nuvolari to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.6 seconds and reach 200 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. The combustion engine revs to 10,000 rpm, a figure more commonly associated with motorsport than road-going vehicles. The German automobile manufacturer notes that several systems, including energy recuperation, launch control, and torque management, draw directly from technologies developed for Formula 1 competition.

 

Audi reimagines its signature quattro all-wheel-drive technology through a new system called ‘quattro predictive ride’, a platform that continuously analyzes steering inputs, acceleration, yaw rate, and tire grip levels to anticipate potential losses of traction before they occur. The predictive system coordinates the electric motors, brakes, and aerodynamic components as a unified network. Torque is distributed individually between wheels, while aerodynamic surfaces adapt their position to generate the required levels of downforce. Drivers can choose between E-Hybrid, Balanced, Dynamic, and Dynamic+ driving modes, while a dedicated Track Mode allows traction control settings to be adjusted for different grip conditions, from wet surfaces to racetrack scenarios.

For the first time, Audi combines its Space Frame architecture with a carbon-fiber exterior. Almost every exterior panel is constructed from carbon fiber reinforced polymer, reducing weight while increasing structural rigidity. The company says the components were developed using manufacturing processes and expertise derived from Formula 1, including prepreg autoclave production methods that maximize strength while minimizing material usage. The lightweight construction extends to forged center-lock wheels and carbon-backed performance seats inside the cabin. The extensive use of composite materials also enables highly complex geometries, including concealed aerodynamic channels integrated directly into the bodywork.

 

Aerodynamic performance defines the Nuvolari’s design. A deployable rear wing automatically adjusts between three positions depending on speed, driving mode, and vehicle dynamics. Similar to Formula 1’s Drag Reduction System, drivers can manually reduce drag via a steering-wheel-mounted DRS button during high-speed driving. Additional aerodynamic elements include an S-duct integrated into the front bodywork, cooling channels for the brakes and hybrid components, and a large rear diffuser. According to Audi, the complete aerodynamic package can generate more than 400 kilograms of downforce in its highest-performance configuration.

Inside, Audi adopts a highly focused driver-oriented layout that minimizes distractions and places essential information directly within the driver’s field of view. Physical controls remain integrated alongside digital interfaces, while anodized aluminum details and lightweight carbon structures reinforce the vehicle’s performance character.

 

The interior is organized around contrasting color zones. Dark surfaces dominate the driver’s area to support concentration, while lighter finishes toward the rear create visual separation. Color accents throughout the interface reference the historic Auto Union Type C race car, linking the vehicle to Audi’s motorsport heritage.

 

With the Nuvolari, Audi positions itself within a rarefied category occupied by contemporary hybrid hypercars while showcasing technologies likely to influence future models across its lineup.
