the next generation AUDI ‘A4’ is a synthesis of technology and aesthetics on four wheels. 90% of all the components in the sedan have been redeveloped so that it can define higher benchmarks in the segment. during the development, a high priority was placed on fuel consumption. a good example of the changes in the aerodynamics. the ‘A4’ sedan has very effective 0.23 drag coefficient. combined with the most advanced ‘TDI’ (four and six cylinders) engines. these units have newly developed combustion methods that set standards for fuel consumption and performance. compared with previous models, the car’s dimensions have grown but its weight has been reduced significantly: – up to 120 kilograms. this makes great leaps in driving dynamics, with sporty performance, but with a focus on comfort at the same time.

the ‘A4’ through the italian country side

designboom drove the AUDI ‘A4’ through the prosecco region, north of venice, and noticed that its long and wide wheelbase manages the car to grip the road like a champion. prominent horizontal lines on the front and rear emphasize the car’s width. the flowing design with concise lines communicates the sporty elegance of the brand. of course, the single frame grille with LED and ‘matrix LED’ technology makes the car instantly recognizable as an AUDI. inside, the car maker places a serious emphasis on their virtual cockpit and the ’MMI’. the virtual cockpit is a fully digital combination instrument which features a 12.3 inch LCD screen that displays the most important information in high resolution.

sporty handling with a focus on comfort

the ‘MMI’ controls in the center console act as the main hub of the car. the infotainment system is an 8.3-inch monitor with a corresponding touch pad in the rotary controller to zoom in and out and to enter characters. the whole system is similar to that of a smartphone and includes an intelligent free-text search function to help type. it integrates iOS and android phones into the environment and enables wireless charging to keep batteries full. AUDI has asked bang and olufsen to outfit the ‘A4’ with 19 speakers to create an innovative 3D sound to fill the cabin. be sure to take a test drive of the AUDI ‘A4’ in fall 2015 to enjoy the higher benchmarks that it sets for the sedan market.
