with the EVE LUX, bandit9 adds another model to their space-age motorcycle fleet. the third major iteration of the EVE follows the original design in 2014 and the mark II in 2016. as powerfully dramatic as it is sculpted, the custom workshop imagined and created this entirely new look in six months, with only nine editions expected to be built – all by hand.

best viewed from the side, the bandit9 EVE LUX continues the iconic silhouette of its namesake as it is ‘singular, disruptive and unapologetic’. its unibody is carefully crafted from a sheet of stainless steel to create a seamless flow from fuel tank to the teardrop seat. the result is a futuristic form luxuriously dressed in a two-tone colorway split by a gold pinstripe.

the EVE LUX has a more elegant, dare I say feminine, approach to the design, daryl villaneuva, bandit9 CEO, told designboom.the glossy black and chrome tank with gold trim was something I’ve wanted to do for a long time and this was a fantastic opportunity to introduce it. and we added a circular disc painted in black and polished the bare steel perimeter. it’s a separate piece from the tank and adds another dimension to the look. subtle.

the EVE LUX is a significant upgrade to the original, continues daryl.the proportions are lower and longer to give the bike a more aggressive look and the bike hosts numerous updates: aluminum rims, sporty tires, LED headlights, billet aluminum-milled levers and foot pegs, flush gas cap, inverted forks, upgraded braking system, and minimalist switches and controls. but my favorite upgrade is the semi-automatic engine. I’m not sure why I didn’t incorporate this in earlier models because it’s such an obvious idea. but it’s nice when the operation of the bike gets out of the way so you can enjoy your surrounding. and it makes the motorcycle more accessible to new riders as well.

this stripped back design reveals its powerful mechanical parts below. its engine, with a 4-speed semi-automatic transmission, offers a displacement of 125 cc that pushes the motorcycle to a top speed of 68 mph (110 kmh). this is with the design weighing just 135 kg.

the bandit9 EVE LUX was exclusively designed for luxury house lane crawford hong kong.we’ve been fortunate enough to be in museums and galleries around the world. this year, bandit9 partnered with prestigious retailers, from le bon marche rive gauche in paris to the arsenale in macau. and now, lane crawford in hong kong, who commissioned the EVE LUX and EVE 2020, curates their inventory like a museum. they’re got select pieces from alexander mcqueen to devialet to les ateliers ruby. lane crawford has sentimental value to me too. my father’s office was in the building above one of their branches and I used to explore their shop to wait for him to get out of work. I must have been 10 years old. but even then, I’ve always regarded lane crawford as this unattainable tier and now that bandit9 is in there, it’s surreal. the story’s come full circle. it only took me 30 years to get there…concludes daryl villaneuva.
