first revealed to the world at IFA 2018, the bang & olufsen beosound edge revolutionizes the home speaker. its perfect circular form and powerful wireless audio – created in collaboration with michael anastassiades – not only vibrantly re-imagines the sound of interiors but also the aesthetic. the speaker senses your presence, uniting this musical mastery and sculptural value to become a welcoming and intuitive part of the home.

during the debut of the beosound edge at the london design festival 2018, bang & olufsen and michael anastassiades present 1/6000 – an interactive sound installation that showcases the magical essence of the speaker’s design and performance. the installation, composed of six speakers in four rooms, is based on the composition ‘liquid contra’ by mauro hertig. experience the magic for yourself from september 15 to 22, 2018, at 237 brompton road, knightsbridge.

whilst on wednesday september 19, designboom will co-host an evening in conversation with bang & olufsen and michael anastassiades. the event will be hosted by designboom editor kieron marchese from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, with the talk starting promptly at 6:30pm. as well as being streamed live on designboom’s facebook, the event will be free and open to the public to attend.

like never before, controlling the bang & olufsen speaker is as magical as its immersive sound performance. benefiting from its unique form, users gently roll the beosound edge forwards and backwards to increase and decrease the volume. it is calibrated to read the force of your touch; the stronger it is, the more dramatically the sound will adjust. after letting go, the speaker will gently roll back to its original position. microscopic holes lasered into the aluminum frame, which are invisible to the eye, create a physical touch interface with light shining through, discretely illuminating buttons for adjusting the audio.

once again, bang & olufsen delivers its world-renowned powerful, immersive sound to complete the speaker’s impressive experience. the beosound edge draws upon ground-breaking acoustical technologies, called active bass port, with a 10” woofer bass driver on one side and 4” midrange and 3/4” tweeters on both. when playing at lower volumes, the speaker uses the closed cabinet principle for the most accurate sound reproduction; turn up the volume and the speaker opens to output more energized bass. furthermore, it delivers 360-degree room rolling sound so that you can define the direction of the audio. this makes it possible to divide rooms into an active listening area and a more passive one for example.

with beosound edge, we are bringing forward a timeless design masterpiece that inspires the imagination with an interaction and experience never before seen in home audio. from a distance it is monolithic and discreet, hiding everything that suggests technology, yet it is unforgettable in sound performance punching above and beyond what you would expect for the size of the speaker‘ says bang & olufsen concept manager kresten bjørn krab-bjerre.

showcasing the danish brand’s willingness to push the physical as well as audio boundaries of their designs, the speaker delivers surprisingly powerful audio when compared to its compact footprint. their remarkable craftsmanship and devotion to pioneering aluminum ensures a perfect circular frame was formed. this flawlessly polished finish creates a contrast with the matt black fabric cover that, although being easily exchangeable for on-trend fabric colors in the future, creates a minimizing illusion between the two surfaces. furthermore, it accentuates the colors of the interior no matter which of the two placement options have been chosen; either on the floor as a stunning centerpiece or placed on the wall as a truly gravity-defying statement.

it looks quite surreal as an object, because of the sudden depth change. a gap between the two materials would have allowed a tolerance to exist. here, there is no tolerance, and the in-between space does not exist anymore which is amazing‘ says designer michael anastassiades.
