By Harley-Davidson’s Serial 1

Harley-Davidson’s Serial 1 has adopted the less-is-more philosophy in its bike design by stripping mechanical complications off their electric bike to provide riders ‘more freedom on the trail.’ Enter BASH/MTN, a rigid, single-speed eMTB that has no suspension to tune and drivetrain to adjust, just two wheels and one gear. ‘The less you worry about managing and maintaining technology, the more you can focus on enjoying the ride—and the added exhilaration of electric pedal-assist power makes everything even more fun,’ the brand shares.

Drawn from a Serial 1 engineer’s personal build, BASH/MTN breathes the style of minimalism in its design and functionality in its purpose through its grippy, high-volume Michelin E-Wild knobby tires and a spine-saving, shock-absorbing SR Suntour NCX suspension seat post. The brand also assures riders that they receive ‘crisp handling and immediate feedback that only comes from a rigid frame and the instant acceleration that the single-speed drivetrain delivers—all presented with the clean, uncluttered style that you have come to expect from Serial 1.’

Features and framing

Yucca Tan paint with special Gloss Graffiti graphics cloaks the BASH/MTN bike and boasts its maintenance-free Gates Carbon Drive belt and a Brose S Mag motor that makes 90Nm of knee-saving torque, smooth-stopping TRP four-piston hydraulic disc brakes, internally routed cables and wires, and integrated lighting. The BASH/MTN also flags cloud-enabled connectivity features via the Serial 1 App, developed in partnership with Google Cloud to track and display essential ride data and improve security and safety throughout the journey.

The frame and fork of the bike’s frame come from welded, hydroformed aluminum, and each frame has optimized sizing to guarantee that the bike caters to riders of all heights and sizes. ‘Both the frame geometry and rider contact points have been carefully evaluated to make sure that our size range is well suited to nearly every customer,’ the brand says. A 529Wh lithium-ion, removable battery is integrated into the frame that can be charged on the bike through a charging port located on the lower left side of the frame.

Integrated App

The mid-mounted Brose S Mag motor produces 90Nm/66 ft. lb. torque, a power assistance that provides riders with smooth terrain treks. ‘Mid-mount placement near the crank lowers the center of gravity and centralizes mass to optimize vehicle handling, while an electronic torque sensor automatically registers the pressure the rider applies to the pedals,’ the brand shares. Four ride modes (Eco, Tour, Sport, and Boost) and available to favor the path conditions of the rider who can easily switch between the settings as the road’s surface shifts.

Serial 1 also partnered with Google Cloud to design a mobile app that helps riders with their turn-by-turn navigation and gathers their real-time data directly from the electric bike to assist the riders on the current status of their ride. Access to Google Cloud analytics and integration with Google Cloud AI features enables Serial 1 to continuously enhance its mobile app solutions to provide a secure eBike experience while also ensuring data protection.
