the ‘beoplay A3‘ is an iPad stand and speaker unit, designed by danish designer steffen schmelling for the the B&O play company of danish design house bang & olufsen.

iPads snap in and out of the aluminum-trimmed, black wedge-shaped device, which can be held or placed in either portrait or landscape position. the ‘A3’ utilizes bang & olufsen’s ‘adaptive stereo orientation’ technology, which identifies the orientation of the device and selects which of four speakers need be activated for optimal listening experience.

measuring 14.2 by 8.3 by 2.8 inches (36 x 21 x 7 cm), the ‘beoplay A3’ weighs 2.8 pounds (1.25 kg) and has a five hour battery life. it was just announced alongside the company’s first television, the flatscreen ‘beoplay V1‘, as well as a wireless update of ‘beosound A8‘ sound system, and blue and light grey colour options for the ‘beolit 12’ portable speaker (covered by designboom here).
