BMW has unveiled the MINI cooper SE vehicle, the british brand’s first ever fully-electric production car. with a range of between 235 and 270 kilometres (146 to 168 miles) and fast-charging possible at up to 50 KW, the cooper SE combines sustainable mobility with riding fun.

according to BMW, ‘innovative driving dynamics system with wheel slip limiting close to the actuator, give the MINI cooper SE a particularly intense and unmistakable agility, known as the go-kart feeling. this can be further adapted with four different driving modes. overall, the car can sprint from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 7.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 93.2 mph.

installed in the floor is a T-shaped 32.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. it takes type 2 and CCS combo 2 charging plugs up to a maximum of 50 KW, meaning it charges to 80% in about 35 minutes. the electric hatchback produces 184 bhp and 270 Nm of peak torque from the electric motor. without the need of an exhaust system, the MINI cooper SE facilitates air ducting in the undercarriage and at the rear.

the dimensions, design, space and interior ambience stay true to MINI’s conventionally powered vehicles, with a few model-specific elements. bright yellow body accents on the front grille and side mirror caps denote that this isn’t a typical MINI, while funky alloy wheels have been carried over from the 2017 MINI electric concept.

the interior, too, is based on the conventional version featuring the same dashboard with a circular-themed infotainment system. the 2020 MINI cooper SE also includes two-zone automatic climate control, navigation and auxiliary heating. optional technology adds a larger 8.8-inch touchscreen unit, leather upholstery and function telephony with wireless charging. overall, there are four exterior and interior packages that bring different exterior finishes, wheel designs, seat upholsteries, and cabin trims.

otherwise known as the MINI electric, the front-wheel-drive three-door EV is expected to arrive in 2020, with production beginning in november 2019.
