BMW Motorrad introduces the Vision CE as a ‘helmet-free’ electric scooter concept and a new approach to urban mobility. The project explores how design can make two-wheel transport more accessible, emphasizing comfort and safety, and designed for riders living in the city.

‘Inspired by beach buggy vibes, the Vision CE is reinterpreting mobility on two wheels,’ says the team at BMW Motorrad. ‘The design of this one-of-a-kind bike taps into the Zeitgeist: Anchored in urban living, but ready for any adventure.’

By rethinking the relationship between rider and machine, the Vision CE revives ideas BMW tested more than two decades ago with the C1 scooter, this time adapting them to the realities of electric platforms and contemporary design expectations.

The defining feature of the BMW Motorrad Vision CE is its integrated safety cell. Built around a metal tube frame, the structure encloses the rider in a way that allows for use without a helmet or heavy protective gear. A seatbelt and ergonomically designed seat complete the system, which is intended to ensure meaningful protection and reduce the barriers often associated with two-wheeled travel.

‘Changing clothes to be able to ride a motorcycle? Choosing between safety and style? Simply hop on and get riding,’ the team explains. For city commuters, this arrangement removes the time and discomfort tied to helmets and thick jackets. The design team hopes to maintain safety with a more casual experience.

Visually, the BMW Motorrad Vision CE departs from the silhouette of the familiar electric scooter. Its stretched wheelbase and low stance give it an sturdy presence, and the protective cage itself feels light and open. The geometry feels deliberate, emphasizing transparency and proportion over bulk.

BMW’s color palette includes matte white surfaces set against black structural elements, with bits of vivid neon to punctuate the frame. Exposed aluminum adds tactility and balancing its futuristic stance. Inside, the seat’s matte texture and subtle lettering continue this pared-back aesthetic.

The addition of a self-balancing system improves usability in everyday situations. At stoplights, the system keeps the scooter upright, removing the need to plant feet on the ground and adding confidence for newer riders. Details like these demonstrate the team’s goal of making an electric scooter approachable for more nervous riders.

Although its safety design is still experimental, the Vision CE builds on the proven platform of the BMW Motorrad CE 04 electric scooter. That model brings 42 horsepower and a range of up to 130 kilometers — figures that would make the Vision CE suited for short urban trips.
