in this elaborately created one-off, renowned car manufacturers BMW and pininfarina have collaborated to create ‘the BMW pininfarina gran lusso coupé’, which made its debut at the 2013 concorso d’eleganza villa d’este in lago como. representing an exclusive interpretation of a luxurious BMW coupé as seen through the eyes of pininfarina, the V12 concept combines generous surfaces and contours to highlight hallmark bimmer proportions – a long wheelbase, stretched bonnet, short overhangs – which are then refined with italian finesse and flair.

‘the appeal of this collaboration with pininfarina is that you get another, very different and special angle on facets like luxury and exclusivity,’ says karim habib, head of BMW design. ‘the italian company, after all, has always been a byword for these criteria in particular, demonstrating time and again its keen sensitivity and exceptional finesse in these areas. in pininfarina we have found the ideal partner to lend shape to this vehicle concept.’

the trademark BMW kidney grille forms the central element of the front-end, displaying distinctive form language which can also seen within the set-back greenhouse with smoothly sloping roof-line. the vehicle silhouette stretches past precise contours, flowing towards the rear to define the short tail end of the coupe.

an elongated side profile merges horizontal elements that imbue the entire back end with a broad, flat impression. extending from the sides, the tail lights are conceived in two sections – allowing maximum airflow through the open space design.

adding to the four-seater’s character, the interior is outfitted with exclusive materials and a completely refined cockpit configuration. native to new zealand, kauri swamp wood aged at over 48,000 years from riva 1920 furnishes the cabin trim, as complementary high-grade leather from the foglizzo leather factory embodies the ergonomic sport seats in black and a light shade of tobacco brown.

  • The effort to make our cars look menacing and evil has brought us to this. A car that looks like a cartoon character in the front and a gummy, toothless old man in the back.
I actually laughed when I saw the first picture!
Up next…..snarling sharks teeth over the grill. Don’t miss it!
