what is your favorite space? imagine it for a second; think about the feeling it creates, the memories it evokes, and what physical or psychological elements make it that way. with the principles of automotive design in a revolutionary moment (with the development of autonomous driving and 3D-printing for example), BMW is designing the future of mobility through not just new technologies but, most importantly, through the overall experience.

following the feeling of familiarity and freedom of colors, erik melldahl, interior design BMW i, highlights the craftsmanship of the BMW vision iNEXT before its world premier. his favorite space is mental: it is the sense of complete happiness when in a focused frame of mind. his desire to build things transports him to tranquillity until complete fulfilment is achieved.

when stepping inside, passengers may not be able to experience the same state of mind as erik. the fulfilment, care and dedication will be noticeable however. from the smooth surfaces to the minimal cut-lines, the space resembles a living room where every item is curated personally and perfectly.

the carefully crafted design is highlighted by the seamless integration of materials, technologies, and the ideas of old and new. a center sole, made from a matt wood finish, appears like a floating coffee table and highlights uniqueness. whereas, hidden behind the lush furnishings, ‘shy tech’ is intricately integrated into the interior in order to simply enhance rather than over-power. what will be apparent in the car is its devotion to creating a tranquil setting that will always transport you to a home of happiness.
