BMW vision iNEXT car expresses freedom of color within my favorite space

what is your favorite space? imagine it for a second; think about the feeling it creates, the memories it evokes, and what physical or psychological elements make it that way. with the principles of automotive design in a revolutionary moment (with the development of autonomous driving and 3D-printing for example), BMW is designing the future of mobility through not just new technologies but, most importantly, through the overall experience.

following the feeling of familiarity highlighted by BMW i exterior design’s jose casas pena, carlotte kanters, color & trim designer BMW i, explores the freedom of color ahead of the world premier of the BMW vision iNEXT. her favorite space is a place renowned for leisure, relaxing and friendship, but a strong sense of what establishes this is the openness, freedom and colors of the setting. much like the beach, the car’s interior recreates this warm yet rich sensorial experience.

within its liquid greyrose copper exterior color, the interior is bathed in a nude base palette that is supplemented with subtle accents of metallic bronze and even blue clouddust cloth weaved in a jacquad technique. this helps illustrate an ambience of comfort and warmth, as well as defining an element of exclusivity and belonging.

above the ‘shy tech’, it is the car’s blend of materials that deliver a ‘living space on wheels’. the cloth and wood resemble finely designed furniture, but it is the use of glass – and its interplay with light – that truly perfects her vision of color. a large panoramic sky roof and stretching side windows floods the interior with light and thus a feeling of freedom. prisms in the illuminated crystal glass shell of the wooden center console creates spontaneous, magical performances on the nude backdrop. the freedom of color evokes memories, creates new ones, and fabricates a space as special as your home wherever you go.
