the ‘X5 xdrive40e’ provides versatile and effortless performance using the edrive button to adjust its operating mode. the AUTO setting boosts its power, using the electric drive when accelerating or during quick bursts, to propel it from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.8 seconds. alternatively, the MAX mode which runs purely on voltaic power, creates zero local emissions and has a max range of 31 km and top speed of 75 mph (120 km/h). in the save battery mode, the high-voltage’s state of charge can be maintained, allowing energy to be accumulated.

located underneath the luggage compartment floor which has between 500 and 1,720 liters of space, the lithium-ion battery powers the 8-speed steptronic transmission and the low-voltage battery. this can be recharged by connecting it to any standard domestic socket, a BMW i wallbox and at public charging stations. the remote app, downloadable on smartphones, enables people to check the status charging, locate stations, call up efficiency evaluations and even control auxiliary heating and ventilation functions. another smart feature is the energy management function connecteddrive. this uses data on the route profile, when activated, and governs the powertrain control in accordance to this and real-time traffic information.
