with today’s aerodynamics, carbon fiber composites and the latest engine technology, supersonic airlines could be just around the corner. in denver colorado hangar, boom are research and developing plane designs to make it more affordable for business travel. headed by technology entrepreneur blake scholl, the company wants to create an airplane that can reach speeds of up to mach 2.2 (1,452 mph), which would be 2.6 times faster than any other airliner available today. a seven hour trip from new york city to london would only take 3.4 hours and would save approximately 3.5 hours of flight time. currently boom is building prototypes with first test flights happening late 2017.
