'bubble shield' by designlibero imagines a solar-powered personal space

for this project libero rutilo and ekaterina shchetina of designlibero have brought the phrase ‘living in your own bubble’ into manifestation. developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to limit the spread of the virus, the ‘bubble shield’ concept is essentially a physical barrier created to protect people in public spaces.

we all live in our world and this ‘bubble shield’ concept proposes how the idea of a private protected zone could become physical. going one step further than social distancing measures, this plastic and inflatable ball imagines a way of walking around our cities without the fear of coming into contact with the micro-particles of a virus or even harmful air pollution.

the concept is made from thermic-welded ETFE and is electric and solar powered. to inflate the micro structure, a battery pack located in the backpack acts as power supply for an air pump compressor and fan coils, which purify the air through interchangeable filters. the bubble is composed of two halves that are attached together with an easy-open zipper, allowing users to easily step in and out of their own personal shield.

  • Nice try, but I would want my arms/hands free for safety. Needs a tweak or two. Heat buildup maybe bigger issue than at first glance.

  • Interesting idea! Be aware that this is a ‘concept’ which, like all other concepts can be adjusted, manipulated , improved upon and more obviously make you create your own ideas of “bubble worlds”. Enjoy it before destroying it. I think it looks fun! But could I grow tomatoes in it too??

  • I am all in! Love it!!! Needs armholes and a front internal pocket for contaminated gloves.

  • This is close to the dumbest thing I have seen, save and except for the see through sci-fi space suits for women from the 50’ies comic strips. I can just imagine cooking in the sun in this plastic green house, falling over and not being able to use your arms. Please can somebody tie my shoe…

  • No doubt, I would have it all stickered up and full of clutter just like my purse and my car.

I don’t think these are very safe though because you cant use your arms to protect yourself and I doubt you can run in them. A guy could pick you up off the street like a piece of candy, wrapper and all.

Probably a fire hazard as well. Imagine hot melted plastic wrapped around your face.

  • I would like to know the price Maybe Our Needs like Fifty Pieces for one day To organise concerned and party you think It’s Possible

  • Please also design one for use in wheelchairs. Thank you.
