Sloping roof and curved cabin for citroën’s C5 aircross concept

At the Paris Motor Show 2024, Citroën introduces the C5 Aircross Concept, a family SUV with pronounced shoulders, a sloping roof, a curved cabin, and pyramidic tire spoke designs. It follows the unveiling of the C3 Aircross in June 2024. This time, the car manufacturer focuses on expanded volumes for the vehicle’s look. Outside, there’s an edge line framed by two taut ribs on the side of the SUV. It bends towards the rear, which can help stabilize the car.

The back has a vertical, upright shape to make it appear as if it has much more storage space in the trunk (in fact, it has more than enough for a family’s object load). When owners gaze at the front doors, they can find a subtle dip in the design to make the SUV look taller. The vehicle also has vibrant strips around the exterior design to help it stand out from its other siblings, like the C3 or C3 Aircross. Citroën says that the overall design of the C5 Aircross Concept is in line with the modern styles of its current vehicles, hinting at the potential future direction of its next car models.

Citroën’s SUV arrives at paris motor show 2024

More at the front, Citroën adds what the manufacturer calls a three-point light signature. It’s a lighting design made up of three thin beam lines to give the C5 Aircross Concept a ‘piercing’ look. At the Paris Motor Show 2024, visitors can also discover that the lights around the SUV are narrow and sleek. They can also see that the front fenders and hood have a smooth surface, which contrasts with the sharp-looking grille and headlight designs.

The rear lights follow the three-point light design, but it’s a bit different because two points of this are separated from the SUV’s body. In this way, they look like they’re floating, even resembling shark fins. It earns the name Citroën Light Wing, and by the looks of it, rightly so. The design team lowers the nose of the car so the air can flow in and out of the engine, while the rear of the vehicle extends out to help with aerodynamic performance.

Design elements around the SUV to reduce drag

Citroën zeroes in on reducing the drag of its C5 Aircross Concept. In fact, lots of the design nuances focus on that. The roof, for example, slopes downward, descending from the cabin, which is shaped curved and rounded, to help reduce the vehicle’s drag. There are also striped elements on the side near the back of the SUV, designed as well to keep the air moving smoothly over the vehicle’s surface.

Even the curved rear bumper makes the air move in a way that reduces the drag effect and creates a bit of thrust to counteract it at higher speeds. As some of the finishing touches, the flaps and air inlets emerge on different parts of the car to further reduce driving resistance. Citroën premieres the C5 Aircross Concept at the Paris Motor Show 2024 and plans to start production of the SUV in 2025.
