the ‘diodon project’ created by dynamorphe focuses on the design and realization of a 50 m2 demonstrator pavilion. the design team developed an innovative constructive system taking advantage of the characteristics of an inflatable structure and the proprieties of an auxetic material — the dilation of the material in one direction implies its dilation in its normal direction. it is set up at the ecole nationale superieure d’architecture in paris and has been supported within the framework of the architectural incubator launched by the pavillon de l’arsenal. reproducing an auxetic behavior through the implementation of a folding pattern, the membrane becomes locally extensible, and the shape of the inflatable globally adaptable.
the dynamic pavilion’s auxetic behavior allows its membrane to be extensible and its shape to be adaptable
french student collective dynamorphe‘s auxetic system proposes an alternative to inflatable structures understood as a collection of quasi-non-elastic planar surfaces issuing unique tridimensional surface. the ‘diodon project’ becomes a form-changing inflatable structure that can shrink, expand, and multiply. the adaptations of the structure can be controlled through digital interfaces. it can either be programmed, respond to user-intervention or sensors. space modifications in real time allow to consider future playful and pedagogic workshops that will invite the user to experiment notions like space-appropriation. this form-changing structure indeed questions and extrapolates the user’s ability to modify its environment.
‘diodon’ is a form-changing structure that can shrink, expand, and multiply
meets both the futuristic evolving architecture and the technologically hyper-connected construction
this project is created by a french student collective, whom are studying digital knowledge
set up at the ecole nationale supérieure d’architecture paris-malaquais, within the digital knowledge department
the modifications of the structure can be controlled through digital interfaces
the geometric inflatable system recalls the metaphor of the architectural machine
the design team issues a unique tridimensional surface from the form-changing structure
it is an organic organism that does not only refer to the modern industrialization process
dynamorphe is planning future experimentation through their digital knowledge
the design team is preparing the inflatable pavilion’s installation at the ecole nationale superieure d’architecture
