with the 2013 frankurt motor show approaching, ferrari has taken the wraps off their newest addition to the 458 family– the 458 speciale. acting as the successor to the previous 430 scuderia and 360 challenge stradale, the new mid-rear-engined V8 berlinetta – which was developed in close collaboration between italian styling house pininfarina – is designed to boost both performance and aerodynamics with a beefed up naturally aspirated V8 that can produce 597 horsepower and 398 lb.ft of torque. launching from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.0 seconds, the speciale is considered to be the most aerodynamically efficient range production car in ferrari history with front and rear movable aerodynamics which balance downforce and cut drag – a feature that will become standard in future prancing horse production.

the newest innovation of the speciale however, is the side slip angle control system (SSC) which makes it easier to achieve car control on the limit, optimizing both torque management with ‘F1-Trac’ traction control and torque distribution between the two wheels with the ‘E-Diff’ electronic differential. in addition, the new 458 has the fastest response time (0.060 s) and highest lateral acceleration (1.33 g) in the ferrari range.
