the hyperloop one global challenge, an international competition, has announced its winners from a pool of over 2,600 applicants. the challenge was to integrate hyperloop technology into an existing economic and social framework to revitalize and catalyze economic growth. one of the competition winners, ‘mexloop’ designed by FR-EE, proposed to implement the hyperloop technology to alleviate current traffic problems in one of the world’s most congested cities — diminishing the travel time between mexico city and guadalajara to 38 minutes by traveling at a speed of over 600 miles per hour.

hyperloop is a mode of transportation based in high-speed efficiency that seeks to revolutionizes the way we move between cities. the system uses electric propulsion to accelerate a passenger or cargo through a tube in a low pressure environment. the autonomous vehicle levitates above the track and glides at faster-than-airline speeds over long distances. elon musk open-sourced the hyperloop technology asking others, internationally, to propose and develop a viable proposal and utilization of this new scheme.

the project was led by architect FR-EE, fernando romero enterprise, along with teams of engineers, technology specialists, global management consultants, transportation experts, and many more. the proposal seeks to create what they describe as a ‘megalopolis.’ the technology can be accessed by more than 42 million people, which is projected to grow to 60 million by 2050. the proposed mexloop will link mexico city to guadalajara with additional stops in león and querétaro.

the proposal links mexico’s areas of dense population, cultural growth, and industrial and manufacturing centers. the mexloop’s mission combines the new hyperloop technology with the country’s existing infrastructure. the team states, ‘the system promises to enhance mexico’s global transport and logistics performance and secure the country as a leader in autonomous mobility and other innovative transportation-related research, particularly when considered in tandem with the construction of mexico city’s new international airport, and the country’s nearly $600 billion in public infrastructure development.’
