between mystery and magic, between past and future, a dream becomes reality,’ notes fred krugger as, after nearly three years, he finishes his four-wheel masterpiece. following the ‘thiverval‘, ‘SR400‘ and more, the belgian is already reknowned as a world champion of custom motorcycles. however, his new creation, the fred krugger FD, blends the boundaries between bike and car, adding more wheels, and even redefining our image of sculptures and machines.

the building of the fred krugger FD first began in 2018, with the creator challenged to produce something 100% unique, purely belgian in nature and true to krugger’s style. the car’s name, ‘FD’, stands for the clients’ initials: françois fornieri and andré dupont. like his motorcycles, fred krugger created the racing car entirely by hand.

the aesthetic of the design was heavily influenced by fred krugger’s fascination with retrofuturism, the art deco and streamline philosophies. the wheels, as well as the main body, are each housed within smoothed, royal blue-colored cases. details, from wooden trims to geometric airvents, then add art deco touches to these forms. the result is not only reminiscent of the golden days of automotive racing but also of the styling lines from cars of that era too.

flowing from its unique headlight at the front, the open-top car reveals its one-seat which is decked in wood. its finely crafted decking appears as if taken straight from the early 20th century, but shapes like the steering wheel bring the car into the future. mirroring the windscreen but positioned at the rear, the model reveals its power: the bentley continental GT engine. this six-liter, twelve-cylinder motor was boosted from 635 hp to 750 hp, adding dramatic power to the 1,250 kg-weighing car.

  • At first glance, it’s stunning. Then you look at the detail. Oval wheels? Seats without cushioning?seats with metal chrome armrests? I could go on, but then again.

  • A lot of work – simply to do a ‘lot of work’. The seat looks really comfortable. Those fenders will have reverse dimples the first time the car comes over a patch of gravel. The driver will stop because he will think the engine must have thrown a rod. Excess for excess’ sake. No cigar.
