to celebrate the inauguration of lamborghini‘s MUDETEC museum of technologies on june 11, 2019, we had the pleasure of visiting the company’s headquarters to learn about the luxury car brand‘s ‘design DNA’ and take a look at the range of models from past to present. situated in sant’agata bolognese, close to the italian city of bologna, the exhibition currently on display takes visitors on a journey from the earliest creations in the 1960s to the latest concept cars. offering interactive experiences via driving simulators and the chance to tour live productions lines, the new MUDETEC provides the opportunity to be fully-immersed in the world of lamborghini.

synonymous with speed and avant-garde designs, the automotive brand and manufacturer was first formed in 1963 by ferruccio lamborghini. from the early 1960s ‘miura’ sports car, to the future ‘terzo millennio’, the guiding principle of the company has always been to create cars to fulfil people’s fantasies. as ferruccio himself notably remarked: ‘I wanted this car just for me, it was always a dream and must remain a dream.’

during the recent visit, the current head of design, mitja borkert, gave insight into lamborghini’s ‘design DNA’ and echoed the sentiments of the original visionary ferruccio: ‘we are here to create dream cars.’ interestingly, borkert also described the ‘simple recipe’ that makes up the iconic automobiles. by tracing the same forms of aerodynamic lines, every model is designed in such a way that it can be easily distinguished as a lamborghini, even from seeing just its silhouette.

in addition to fulfilling the fantasies of car-lovers around the globe, lamborghini is also looking to the future. as conveyed by both mitja borkert and the head of research and development, attilio masini, the company is focusing on the next generation of cars with a view to offer customers innovation and environmental sustainability. to achieve this, the team are currently researching recyclability, in an effort to bring the supercars into present day without compromising on the iconic design people know and love.
