‘celebration’ by madonna

musaic‘, developed by australia-born, US-based software engineer ian mckellar, offers a visual way to explore music,
compositing together album art from hundreds of other cover images. clicking on one of the ’tiles’ opens a large version
of that cover image, as well as sets the page to generate a mosaic of that cover artwork next.

to source the images, the project uses the opensource API of rdio online music streamers. ‘musaic’ was developed during
music hack day san francisco 2012, a developers’ event towards the use of programming to reshape the future of music.
programmed over the course of the 24-hour workshop, the application is not designed as a finished project, but viewers can explore
the album art generator in its current state online.
