instead of street names and numbers, is the future that of digital addresses for everyone and every location in the world? google plus codes say so. according to the tech company, billions of people don’t have an address, or if they do, they are not very accurate. the plus codes are assigned by latitude and longitude in a short sequence of numbers and letters. this enables people to receive deliveries, access emergency and social services, or just help others find them – and on top of this, the new addresses are much easier to share than traditional global coordinates.

based on a set of 20 alphanumeric characters, google’s plus codes are language independent as well as shorter and thus easier to share than conventional addresses. they are neither case-sensitive or include easily confused characters, and even exclude vowels. the platform is open source and easy to use – its already integrated into google map services. people are free to create their own, share, and use when needed, no matter whether online or offline as no internet connection is required.
