Hyundai’s electric three-wheeler with space for wheelchair

Hyundai unveils the concept electric three-wheeler and micro-four wheeler, reimagining local transport in India. The company reveals the concept cars during the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in India, which runs between January 17th and 22nd. While these two are still a concept, Hyundai partners with TVS Motor Company Ltd. (TVS Motor) to make the electric three-wheeler a real-life model. Then, the company says that the micro-four wheeler’s development is still under review, but that they’re focusing on its ‘global potential.’

Hyundai’s electric three-wheeler for India reimagines the country’s motor rickshaw as a modern transport car. The design comes with an angled windshield for visibility, collision protection, a flat floor, and an extended wheelbase. The electric three-wheeler is modular as well, as users can have it transformed into a delivery or a response-emergency vehicle. There’s a single seat for the driver, and two seats at the back for the passengers. This area is modular too, and once it’s removed, users can fit a wheelchair here for people with reduced mobility.

Extended wheelbase and flat floor design for more legroom

Aside from the wheelchair, the back passenger seating can become the trunk space to transport delivery goods, groceries, and packages. Hyundai makes its electric three-wheeler compact and narrow enough so it can drive through the narrow streets in India. The height of the vehicle’s body is also adjustable, so machines can lift it to navigate waterlogged streets during heavy rains or monsoon seasons.

The windshield is diagonal for a clearer view of the road ahead. The company, together with TVS Motor, also extends the wheelbase and goes for a flat floor design. These two result in more legroom and seating position for the driver. While the electric three-wheeler looks sleek, the tires are large so that the vehicle can ride on rough terrains.

heat-reducing gloss black paint on the roof

There’s also a towing hook present so other vehicles can lift off the car from potholes. Hyundai chooses the Aakaashi Blue color for the electric three-wheeler as a homage to the shade of the Indian Ocean. The company is reviewing the use of heat-reducing gloss black paint on the roof and water-resistant materials for the interior surfaces.

The former reduces the heat going inside the vehicle, while the latter protects the vehicle from extreme weather conditions. Aside from the adaptable storage solutions, Hyundai also adds a slime cluster design in the electric three-wheeler, which is the space for the information display. There’s even a dedicated phone holder, as well as adjustable pegboard-inspired panels. So far, Hyundai is developing the first model of the electric three-wheeler with TVS Motor.
