following their handcrafted titanium ‘vulcano’ hypercar and compact ‘neo’ city car, icona has taken to the sea with the fibonacci catamaran. it conceptualizes a futuristic, electrically-powered yacht that aims to offer a new experience of sailing. at the same time, its grand piano-like design is a nod to its namesake – the fibonacci sequence.

for the icona fibonacci, the turin-based design studio was inspired by the numbers of nature. it reveals an asymmetrical shape that is reminiscent of a seashell when in its compact form. the roof, covered with solar panels, lifts off like the lid of a grand piano to reveal a large deck to sunbathe and relax. to access this flying upper deck and its control panel, a pair of spiralling staircases – one on either side and end of the boat – climb up from the lower deck.

the 16.7-meter (55 feet) catamaran is powered by a pair of 200 kw (270 hp) motors, each running from two 340 kWh battery packs. this electrical energy ensures it offers at least 12 hours of cruising – as well as 12 hours of stationary time – and an anticipated range of 150 miles (240 km) when moving at 10 knots.
