Meet ANKARLÄGG, an LED nightlight with sensor by IKEA

IKEA releases ANKARLÄGG, an LED nightlight with a sensor that attaches to any surface and glows without plugging in. Using two AAA batteries, the lightbulb-shaped device has no wires, no plugs, or no need for a mains connection. The nightlight works with a motion sensor, so it can ‘see’ movement. When someone walks within three meters of the light, it turns on automatically, but it does not stay on all the time.

It only lights up for 30 seconds before it turns off on its own again. The light only works in the dark, so during the day, it stays off, even if there is movement. Since the product controls itself, the batteries installed in the LED nightlight with sensor can last around six months of regular use.

polycarbonate plastic surface spreads the glow evenly

Designed by Bruno Adrien Aguirre, the nightlight follows the minimal design ethos of the brand, preferring to just draw the shadow lines of a lightbulb and let the negative space form the rest of the canvas. The base is made of polycarbonate plastic, which is robust and durable enough for everyday use, and since the material is frosted, it helps spread the light evenly and in a soft, non-harsh way.

To install it, the user doesn’t need tools or wiring. They simply insert the batteries and mount the light where they want it because the product comes with a double-sided adhesive pad. They stick it to the back and press it onto a wall or surface, allowing them to place it in different areas of the home. It can work well in hallways, bedrooms, and along stairs, and it is also useful inside cupboards or wardrobes, especially since these spaces have limited light at night. The motion sensor makes the light turn on only when users open the door or move their hands inside. So far, the IKEA LED nightlight with sensor is available both in selected stores and online.
