seeking to improve the safety of bikers, CX air dynamics founder xavier bouquillard realizes a pair of trousers designed to trigger an inflatable airbag in the event of a fall. in developing the concept, the french designer considers the statistics: while the motorcycle is much more deadly than the car, there is a growing increase in the number of two-wheelers in circulation — this is due in part to the boom in the electric motorcycle market. to prevent disaster, the use of an airbag on a motorcycle has been strongly recommended by the french government for the past two years. with this in mind, the toulouse-based designer expanded the inflatable outerwear concept to cover the lower body as well.

the CX air dynamics-designed pants integrate an airbag system which serves to protect the lower body in the event of a fall on a motorcycle. the airbag, which deploys and inflates at the time of the accident, is equipped with an air cartridge and a striker. the assembly is mechanically connected to the motorcycle with a cord. in the event of an accident, this cord is detached, allowing the firing pin to engage the cartridge. realized after three years of development, the company has launched a crowdfunding campaign which will run until january 28th.

founder xavier bouquillard de milleret followed a student pilot training at the air school, a journey which largely contributed to the design development. the cord connection recalls the ripcord assembly installed to trigger a parachute deployment. further, crash statistics show that lower-extremity injuries are more frequent in motorcycle accidents.
