‘linyl’ by ishac bertran, shruti ramiah, benoit espinola and natalia echevarría, 2009linyl is an interactive music project designed by ishac bertran with shruti ramiah, benoit espinola and natalia echevarría. using an old record playing, the team set out to create an experience that respected the ritual of using a record player with a contemporary viewpoint. they chose to make the device play memories and nostalgia rather than music. each record played on linyl uses a photo, something close to the same emotional effect as music. the photos are played by extracting their colour pallete and converting this into a pattern that is then printed on the disc. a colour light sensor was retrofitted onto the arm of the record player and linked to a lamp which displays the colours on the record.
