jaguar type 01 launches electric era with four-door grand tourer
the first production model on jaguar’s dedicated electric architecture combines a low-slung gt profile with more than 1,000ps, 400 miles of EPA range, and an explicitly british design lineage.
Jaguar Type 01 brings its electric design language to production
After revealing the Type 01’s interior back in August, including its distinctive full-length central ‘spine,’ Jaguar now unveils the finished electric GT in New York, marking the first production model in a new generation for the British marque. Designed, engineered, and built in the UK, the Type 01 is an all-electric four-door grand tourer developed on Jaguar’s dedicated Electric Architecture (JEA). Its arrival introduces a new approach to the proportions, performance, and occupant experience of Jaguar’s next generation of electric vehicles.
The Type 01 is defined by a long bonnet, low roofline, and stretched silhouette, with proportions that recall the E-type and XJS while establishing a new visual language for the electric era. Jaguar says the design began with a single line and a blank sheet of paper, allowing its aerodynamic requirements to shape the clean, elongated surfaces of the car.

Turning heritage into a new identity
Underneath the bodywork is JEA, an 850-volt electrical architecture developed specifically for Jaguar’s next generation of electric vehicles. The Type 01 produces more than 1,000PS and is claimed to offer a 400-mile EPA range. The British vehicle brand says the vehicle can add 200 miles of range in 13 minutes when connected to a 350kW charger. The technical specifications position the Type 01 as a vehicle around which Jaguar is rebuilding its approach to performance and design.
The Type 01’s name also establishes the logic for the new generation. ‘Type’ refers to Jaguar’s history of naming significant vehicles, ‘0’ refers to zero tailpipe emissions, and ‘1’ identifies it as the first model in the new product series.

From E-type references to a new identity
Jaguar’s challenge is to use recognizable elements of its past without allowing heritage to become the entire design language. The Type 01’s long bonnet, low proportions, and emphasis on a dramatic silhouette make that connection explicit, while its electric platform allows the company to reconsider the relationship between exterior form and mechanical architecture.
Its New York launch occupied parts of Times Square, DUMBO, and the Lower East Side before moving to STORIED in West Chelsea, where visitors encountered objects representing different stages of the Type 01’s development. One of these was an aluminum version of the original line drawn by Jaguar’s designers at the beginning of the program. Another, described as the ‘Impossible Panel,’ represented the engineering effort required to translate the vehicle’s complex body shape into a production form. Jaguar also presented tire marks taken from its test track, pointing to the hundreds of thousands of kilometers of development and validation behind the car’s stated combination of composed and dynamic driving characteristics.
