made from steel, aluminum and maple, the wireless ’steel speaker’ by joey roth is his second effort in making minimalistic speakers. these use a mass loaded omnidirectional transmission line design that utilizes quarter wave harmonics to extend the driver’s bass response. a central divider inside splits the enclosed into two halves, creating a folded 24-inch transmission line. the speaker port sits a few inches from the end of the line and the driver at the base sits in the middle. this type of positioning eliminates all harmonics other the first lowest harmonic, which is tuned to extend the bass response. the hardwood ball below diffuses sound from the front of the driver in all directions. it also houses the bluetooth antenna, since it is the only part of the  5.5-kilogram ’steel speaker’ that does not block the receiver. the speakers will be made in oregon and will come in either raw steel or graphite finish.
