kabuto by the B!POD company uses advanced vacuum technology to preserve wine's aroma

The B!POD Company’s take on wine preservation with kabuto

Wine, for all its sophistication, is surprisingly fragile. Once opened, the countdown to oxidation begins, taking with it aroma and flavor. Many preservation methods interrupt the ceremony of wine enjoyment; a needle piercing a cork isn’t quite the same as a slow swirl and a shared toast. That’s where Kabuto by The B!POD Company enters — an elegant, high-performance vacuum sealing system that doesn’t disrupt the ritual, but completes it. At its core, the preservation tool is a design-forward interface linking opened wine bottles with the powerhouse DRO!D vacuum device, combining cutting-edge functionality with symbolic design rooted in the samurai’s protective helmet — Kabuto in Japanese. In essence, The B!POD Company introduces an upgrade to the act of savoring wine, built with intention, modularity, and sustainability.

Italian precision meets sustainable craftsmanship

The B!POD Company, the B2C division of SAES Getters, is the consumer innovation arm of the group. With a history spanning over 80 years, Saes Getters continues to be a prominent figure in the field of advanced materials, driving technological progress and sustainable solutions. Founded in 1940 and headquartered in Lainate, near Milan, the company focuses on innovation in advanced materials, offering a diverse portfolio that includes ultra-high vacuum technologies, metallurgy, chemical platforms, and sub-microscopic materials. Their products are integral to various applications across industries such as aerospace, medical, electronics, and packaging, without compromising their dedication to sustainability.

In 2025, Marco Filippo Batavia and Saes’ Design House Team, The B!POD Company, designed Kabuto as an advanced interface between the wine bottle and the high-performance DROID vacuum device. Thanks to its cutting-edge technology, DROID achieves a powerful vacuum in just a few seconds, quickly removing up to 95% of the air molecules trapped inside the bottle. This ensures exceptional preservation, reliably protecting the wine from oxidation, and maintaining its original aroma, flavor, and quality for significantly longer periods compared to standard consumer-level vacuum solutions.

kabuto Preserves Wine while Preserving a Ritual

While typical consumer vacuum systems struggle to remove enough oxygen to make a difference, Kabutowhen paired with the DRO!D—can remove up to 95% of air molecules in just seconds. This slows oxidation dramatically, preserving the wine’s integrity over several days. From robust Cabernet Sauvignons to delicate Pinot Noirs, it accommodates the nuances of tannin structure and organoleptic sensitivity.

Unlike needle-based preservation systems that bypass cork and ritual altogether, Kabuto honors the experience: uncorking, breathing, tasting. The vacuum step comes only at the end, when the bottle’s leftover contents are sealed with precision and aesthetic flair. Two vacuum modes allow the user to tailor the pressure depending on the wine’s style—whether it’s a short-term preservation of a tannic red or a longer hold for a fragile aromatic white.

But Kabuto’s commitment doesn’t stop at performance. Each unit is designed to last a lifetime- thanks to a fully modular, snap-fit design that enables upgrades, repairs, or replacement of individual parts. Soon, users will be able to service their units via the “officine B!POD” platform, ensuring the product evolves over time rather than becoming obsolete.

Color, too, tells a story. The stoppers come in three distinctive collections inspired by endangered species, with interchangeable rings to quickly identify sealed bottles. Consistent with the brand’s philosophy, each color combination is inspired by and dedicated to an endangered animal species, reflecting a deep commitment to raising awareness about biodiversity conservation. Moreover, Kabuto features interchangeable colored rings, allowing users to instantly identify or differentiate vacuum- sealed contents at a glance, adding both functional convenience and meaningful aesthetics to the preservation process.

Kabuto takes its name from the iconic helmets worn by samurai warriors, traditionally crafted to offer physical and spiritual protection through their distinctive structure and ornamental details. Similarly, Kabuto safeguards the precious contents of wine bottles, recognizing that opening and enjoying wine is a special ritual deserving thoughtful preservation. Paying tribute to this symbolic inspiration, Kabuto’s colored rings are intricately decorated with a subtle micro-pattern featuring the brand’s symbols.

True to its values, Kabuto embraces a short, Italian supply chain and FSC-certified materials like SHIRO Echo paper for packaging. Even its internal molded trays are compostable. Every element, from how the wine is saved to how the product is shipped, aligns with a holistic vision of sustainability. Offered as individual stoppers (€40), or in a starter pack with the DRO!D device (€330), the device bottles up the world of oenology with contemporary industrial design. In doing so, along with wine, Kabuto preserves meaning, craftsmanship, and ecological responsibility.
