the ferrowatch is a wrist watch concept by french designer karim zaouai that uses ferrofluid to tell time. this unusual substance is a fluid metal that becomes highly magnetized when exposed to a magnetic field. the watch face is a simple circle that houses the ferrolfuid and freezes the time when the watch is tilted because of the magnesium housing. under the face is regular watch with magnetically charged hands that force the ferrofluid to react, allowing the user to see the time. the unique characteristics of the material are highlighted by watch’s simple design.
