andré broessel of rawlemon introduces ‘kinichy sun spots’, a series of portable solar-powered spotlights that use spherical lenses to provide surprisingly strong illumination. the kinichys take shape as beautifully crafted small sculptures, and are made from digital printing filaments sustainably, and on-demand, with a maximum capacity of three pieces per day.

each kinichy sun spot uses a ball lens as a booster to generate power and emit light. when dusk appears, the spotlight comes alive, beaming a powerful natural white spot that you can adjust with the rotating eye, and a full-color fading light. at dawn, it automatically turns off the light and goes into charging mode.

‘from choosing the most reliable batteries from cell phones, industry-leading LEDs, and latest high-efficient photovoltaic cells, we developed an autarky automated spotlight without wires or battery replacement,’ explains andré broessel. ‘this is why every kinichy sun spot loves to work from dusk till dawn automatically, without environmental impact,’ he continues.

each spotlight’s consumption is as low as 0,35 W, while it is designed for all weather conditions to be used both indoors and outdoors. the creators have also adjusted the automated lighting operation to 40W by environmental light conditions, meaning that the device is generous to spend light at an early stage of dusk automatically. as there are no ports or controls to be found on the entire object, the photovoltaic cell and power bank manages the run-time of the spotlight. to enjoy even in the worst scenario of charging during a rainy day, the high-power white LED can be switched off and the RGB spot runs all night with a smooth pulsation to guarantee a full circular day and night light. at the end of the daily power bank cycle, the RGB spotlight runs only in red color until the discharging level is reached and the device enters into sleeping mode.

‘kinichy is dedicated to solving and to making the physical world around us better with light,’ says broessel. ‘all is about the power of reflections, as artificial light cost us today 19 percent of the global energy consumption and a pollution of 1gigaton (gt) CO2. in short, I believe that we are standing on the tipping point of a fundamental shift in how we consume, generate and trade artificial and natural light,’ he adds.
