with the hardtop version of the brand’s first ever hybrid revealed in late 2019, lamborghini have now lifted the lid literally on the open-top sián roadster model. the limited edition hypercar blends unique hybrid technologies to deliver the italian marque’s famed performance – all now in a roofless design. this way the driver and passenger can enjoy an even more immersive experience with their accompanied V12 engine. as a feature to highlight the model’s significance, each car can be coated in a completely personalized color, such as the blu uranus finish pictured below.

‘the sián roadster encapsulates the spirit of lamborghini,’ says stefano domenicali, automobili lamborghini chairman and chief executive officer, at the model’s launch. ‘it is the expression of breathtaking design and extraordinary performance, but most importantly embodies important future technologies. the sián’s innovative hybrid powertrain heralds the direction for lamborghini super sports cars, and the open-top sián roadster affirms a desire for the ultimate lifestyle lamborghini as we move towards a tomorrow demanding new solutions.’

the lamborghini sián roadster reveals a futuristic interpretation of the coupe, but in fact, its design has been heavily influenced by the first countach from 1974. highlighted from the aerial and rear view, airstreamers from behind the passengers run diagonally towards the back, where there are six retro-inspired hexagonal taillights. these long sculpted countours as well as aero wings help create a powerful profile and reflects back to the countach. the very low slung front end features Y-shape headlights and an integrated carbon fiber splitter. the latter hints at its optimized aerodynamic body where airflow is directed through this splitter, the front bonnet, the side air intakes and outlets before ending over the rear spoiler.

like the exterior, the open-top cabin design is a mix of new technologies and highly emotional styling. an elegant combination of white with blu glauco detailing and aluminum elements adorn the surfaces alongside eye-catching moments of carbon fiber, such as the control panel. elements like the air vents can be made through 3D printing to allow customization for the client.

by combining the V12 engine with a 48-volt e-motor which delivers 34 hp, the sián roadster is able to retain the emotional and dynamic performance renowned for the brand. the electric motor supports low-speed maneuvers such as reversing and parking. it enhances an innovative supercapacitor application – a world’s first – which stores 10 times the power of a lithium-ion battery. at the same time, this 34 kg-weighing battery is said to be three times lighter than a conventional one that can produce the same power.

the V12 engine itself produces 785 hp which, when combined with the e-motor, delivers a total of 819 hp and reaches a top speed of over 217 mph (350 kmh). its regenerative braking system ensures it can be charged and discharged with the same power, basically fully charging the battery every time the car brakes. this bolsters instant acceleration, taking the roadster from 0 to 62 mph (100 kmh) in less than 2.9 seconds.

product info:

brand: lamborghini

model: sián roadster

  • Gorgeous Lamborghini as usual, but with 0-100 performance of only 2.9 seconds and top speed of only 217mph compared to the fully electric Tesla Roadster’s 1.9 seconds and 250+ mph respectively, it demonstrates how obsolete the internal combustion engine is when it comes to real performance.

And the Tesla is a 4 seater as well. Talk about a smack-down.
