leica AG has presented the latest model in their rangefinder camera segment. based on the otherwise identical leica M, the 24 megapixel leica M-P type 240 offers all the technical advantages of the M system and several additional features such as an enlarged buffer memory capacity of 2 GB, a scratch resistant display-cover made of sapphire glass and manual viewfinder frame selection with traditional ‘image frame selector’. the exterior boasts a reduced aesthetic without the leica logo and ‘M’ lettering on the front side. the leica M-P in silver chrome finish will be available from late august while the black paint finish version will be available from mid-september.

the top cover is milled brass and incorporates an integrated thumb rest

view of the 3 inch display with 920,000 pixels

digital fullframe is achieved with leica R lenses, and features enhanced sensitivity range up to ISO 6400

the lens system supports leica M lenses, leica R lenses with an optional leica R-adapter M

the body is die-cast in magnesium and is wrapped in synthetic leather

rear overview -the scratch resistant display-cover is made of sapphire glass

the dials are also die-cast in magnesium
