the first amounts of electricity have been generated at the ‘london array offshore wind farm‘. having been under construction since march 2011, the 630MW energy scheme, located on a 245 sq km site in the thames estuary, will be the world’s largest wind farm with 151 of the 175 turbines now installed. with construction on schedule to be finished by the end of the year, the arrangement will produce enough power to supply over 470,000 UK homes with electricity. if approved, a second phase will add enough capacity to bring the total to 870MW.
