available in two models – the lotus ‘elise sprint’ and the ‘sprint 220’ – the vehicles pack either a 1.6-liter or a supercharged 1.8-liter engine that offers 134 hp / 160 nm of torque and 217 hp / 250 nm of torque respectively. this, along with the weight reductions, mean that the sports cars offer greater acceleration, racing from 0 to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and 4.1 seconds. furthermore, hethel’s acoustic engineers have worked tirelessly to tune the models’ exhausts, claiming to have achieved the best sounding four-cylinder automobile on the market.

speaking of the new car jean-marc gales, CEO, group lotus plc. said, ‘once again, the elise continues to redefine what is possible in terms of adding lightness to a sports car. whilst other manufacturers try to keep pace with lotus’ weight reduction achievements, we’ve raised the bar beyond their reach. an agile, lightweight sports car does not weight just over a tonne. it should weight substantially less and, it is a fantastic achievement from lotus in ensuring that the fully type approved new elise now dips below the 800 kg barrier.

the ‘elise’ boasts a new distinctive exterior styling, which is most apparent at its front and rear. starting from the front, these features include a redesigned lightweight front clam panel with wider radiator apertures, and a mesh pattern grille that provides a more aggressive appearance overall. racing along the side are the striking yet subtle stripes that draw the eyes towards the back. here, the remodelled rear transom panel includes two rear light clusters, instead of the previous four, resulting in a more minimalist look.

reflecting the same visual drama as seen on the exterior, the cabin has also received a significant re-style that includes a detailed open-gate manual gearbox. both aesthetically and technically appealing, due to providing more precise and quicker shifting, the exposed gearbox saves even more weight for the car, offering a net reduction of 1 kg. above this, the interior benefits from a new center console that is equipped with carbon sill covers and introduces a much clearer instrument panel. additionally, the steering wheel, vent-surrounds and sills can be covered in an array of alcantara trim.
