 it’s only a matter of time, when wireless technology takes over the fashion runways all around the world. british retailer lyle and scott has taken their latest jacket and fuses together technology functionality, fashion and style. what’s different about this jacket, is the contactless payment technology is integrated into the cuff of the right sleeve. it’s a small chip, similar to the ones found in credit and debit cards, that lets users simply tap the cuff to payment terminals. the project is a partnership launch with barclaycard’s ‘bpay’  for all UK registered visa or mastercard barclays customers. 

it let’s users forget the wallet  

‘we are a brand that embraces our heritage however we understand that it is extremely important to stay in touch with the needs of our modern customers,’ explains innovation project manager at lyle and scott, jonathan briggs. ‘innovation is key to realising this, and so we are proud to partner with bpay to launch the world’s first contactless payment jacket. the jacket can be used to pay at any contactless terminal for transactions up to £30, ultimately seizing the next step in satisfying the consumer’s need for flexibility and convenience.’

payment technology is routinely used for taxi cab services 

the jacket is available in ‘admiral’ blue and ‘true’ black, and some say, is safer than carrying cash and just as secure as any credit and debit card, because all payments come with the same fraud protection that is applied to contactless cards. if by any chance it is stolen, users can remotely shut down their contactless chip via the ‘bpay’ mobile app or website.
