mclaren presents its first-ever hyper e-bikes for mountain trails and off-road tracks

Mclaren goes from supercars to hyper e-bikes

From supercars and hypercars, McLaren has entered the field of two-wheels with the debut of its first-ever range of hyper e-bikes, Extreme and Sport. These two-wheel rides have been designed by the same teams responsible for supercars like the electrified and lightweight McLaren Artura hybrid model. This note can cue in that the hyper e-bikes may come equipped with the motors and electrification used in the car brand’s supercars.

First-ever electric bikes for mountain trails and more

The new limited-edition, four-bike range of McLaren employs carbon fiber structure to make it lightweight and agile and a motor that brings a high power-to-weight ratio, mirroring how the car brand’s supercars are developed technology-wise. McLaren says that these hyper e-bikes are designed with ‘torque figures that surpass the standard of other premium e-bikes’ and that they focus more on performance, design, and technology, three elements that the car brand wants to establish as its signature for their first-ever hyper e-bikes.

four models for mclaren’s HYPER E-bikes

There are four distinct models for McLaren’s range of hyper e-bikes: Extreme 600, Extreme 250, Sport 600, and Sport 250. Each can offer modes tailored to city streets, off-road tracks, or mountain trails. The Sport range is more suitable for hard trails, while the Extreme series may appeal more to bikers who enjoy long rides. All of these e-bikes have a digital display whose graphics mimic those of the cars’ driver displays. It flashes the bike’s and ride’s information, including speed, battery life and range, shown on a full-color integrated LCD panel on the handlebars.

there are two ranges in the line: Extreme and Sport

Among these McLaren hyper e-bikes, the Extreme 600 and Sport 600 hope to take home the crown for being ‘the world’s most powerful street-legal electric mountain bike’ with its Race mode that can deliver up to 852W of peak power and a top speed of 20mph/32kph. Just like the McLaren supercars, these hyper e-bikes also come with power modes that the riders can choose from using the digital display. ‘Eco’ can give them longer rides by saving the energy consumption of the electric motor, ‘Trail’ for balanced power and efficiency, ‘Sport’ boosts the e-bikes’ power output for demanding trails, ‘Race’ for maximum power and torque, and ‘Off’ if the riders prefer no motor assist.

The Extreme range is a full-suspension mountain e-bike designed for maximum off-road riding and control, while the Sport series is suited for fast cruising around cities and off-road tracks. All the aforementioned five power modes are based on the settings found in McLaren Sport, and both the Sport and Extreme models are equipped with Pirelli tires to weather all kinds of roads and bumps. In total, four models complete the range. The Extreme 600W and Extreme 250W feature SRAM wireless XX Eagle Transmission 12-speed drivetrains.

On the other hand, the Sport 600W and Sport 250W feature mechanical SRAM GX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain. Two electric mountain bike models are available in limited numbers: a 29-inch hardtail version, and a full-suspension version with 29-inch front wheel, 27.5-inch rear wheel, 145mm of rear travel, and 160mm of fork travel. As of publishing the story, the first-ever McLaren hyper e-bikes are made-to-order in 90 days, with the Extreme models priced (starting) at 11,150 EUR and the Sport series (starting)  at 8,400 EUR.
