2019 mercedes-benz CLA shooting brake defined by muscular, sloping rear

following the first in 2015, the second generation mercedes-benz CLA shooting brake has been revealed at the 2019 geneva motor show, and will be available from september this year. once again, it is a five-door coupe in terms of proportions yet delivers ample more space. differently, however, the new car showcases a new spin on the brand’s sensual purity design philosophy, which expresses an image of modern luxury.

in comparison to the 2015 model, the new mercedes-benz CLA shooting brake features a reduced number of character lines. instead, surfaces are molded with soft sculptural curvatures to create a more clean aesthetic. flat headlamps, low-slung bonnet and diamond radiator grille define a typical mercedez-benz front. a compact greenhouse, muscular shoulders over the rear wheel arches and a crouched rear conclude an elegant, athletic design overall though.

the 2019 edition is 48mm longer, 53mm wider and 2mm lower than previously. this not only gives the car an impressive stance on the road but also more space inside. this plus a higher windowline at the rear, ensures passengers can more easily enter and exit the interior. on top of this, the boot is also bigger, now offering 871mm of room.

in the luxurious style of their sensual purity design philosophy, the car’s interior is a modern, cool and high quality environment. stretching from door to door, the cockpit is dominated by a wing-shaped main body of the instrument panel. the lower section of this panel is separated by a ‘trench’ of ambient lighting. a widescreen display stands freely above these elements. it is integrated with the MBUX – mercedes-benz user experience – that includes intelligent interior assistants and refined voice recognition, even to the point where it can distinguish between the driver’s and front passenger’s wishes.

with a wider track and lower center of gravity, the mercedes-benz CLA shooting brake delivers a more sporty drive. it is also fitted with a multi-link rear suspension and precisely guided wheel suspensions to ensure ride comfort and quiet-running. the car is then powered with a top-of-the-range, powerful four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 225 hp and 350 nm of torque. by its market launch in september 2019, the model will be available with a range of diesel and petrol engines.

  • Not a shooting brake, station wagon… if it had two doors i would call it a shooting brake, this is a wagon.

    Andrew says:
  • Boy, that is not handsome. We keep two wagons, simply love them, but MB’s current wagon is just old and this is a near copy of the Volvo V60 – down to their Sports seats look. Nein, danke.
