electric g-wagen

At the core of the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology is an 116kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery. It is protected within a torsion-resistant casing and carbon underbody, safeguarding against water, dirt, and impact while ensuring a lower center of gravity for off-road prowess. Charged from 10 to 80% in 32 minutes, this provides a range of up to 473km that can be recuperated when coasting, braking, and even when climbing up and down off-road.

designboom experienced the electric G-wagen

Powered by four individually controlled motors strategically positioned near each wheel, the electric G-wagen pushes its powerful torque to each wheel from standstill. 432KW and 1,164Nm in total help it conquer inclines and loose surfaces with ease. Differential locks, precisely calibrated to distribute torque to each wheel as needed, ensure maximum traction and flexibility when cornering. This does not need to manually engaged, instead it is fully automatic in off-road mode. Together, this all results in a gradeability of up to 100% and stability on sideways slopes of up to 36 degrees, ensuring all terrains are conquered and even fording depths of 850mm.

G-TURN revolves the car by up to two rotations on the spot

g-turn, g-steering and off-road crawl

Innovative driving tricks such as G-TURN and G-STEERING redefine off-road manoeuvrability. The G-TURN astounds by revolving on the spot to change direction of travel. G-STEERING significantly shrinks turning circle, throwing the back round corners without the need of the accelerator, and eliminating multi-point turns. The transparent bonnet feature provides a digital view of the terrain ahead and below. Meanwhile, the off-road crawl function acts as a veritable cruise control so that optimal speed is maintained whilst the driver concentrates on navigating tough terrains and obstacles.

the interior design creates a cabin of functional beauty that combines style, comfort, and utility

The G 580 retains its iconic angular silhouette but with special electric details. A slightly raised bonnet, new A-pillar trim, and ‘air curtains’ in rear wheel-arch flares optimize airflow and improve acoustics specifically. The classic round headlights receive a new pairing: a black-panel radiator grille with animated LED light bands. An optional rectangular design box houses charging cables, tools, or snow chains. Otherwise beloved details remain, such as the unique door handles and indicators mounted on the wings.

G-TURN is accompanied by the innovative G-STEERING and off-road crawl features

The interior pairs utility and luxury in a typical G-wagon sense. Square-edged air vents, open-pore wood door trims, and passenger grab handles create an aesthetic of functional beauty. Ambient lighting and opulent leather upholstery for the seats surround the driver and passengers in an elegant environment that matches the icon’s lifestyle image. In terms of comfort, occupants can sit back, turn on massage or heat for their seats, and play with onboard screens.
