MERTZ is an active vision head robot for exploring social learning developed by lijin aryananda and jeff weber at the MIT media lab. this robot recognizes faces and facial expressions and can even understand speech, even repeating it back to the speaker. the robot was intended to learn from situations, absorbing information and reacting appropriately. the robot also keeps a database of facial information so that it could identify multiple people interacting with it at the same time. MERTZ also learns to understand emotions by the way they modify a user’s facial expression. MERTZ can also empathize by adjusting its expression through its modulated eyebrows and lips.
