Celebrities as meta’s new AI chatbots

It’s not every day that users can just fire off messages to Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, and Kendall Jenner, or even ask them for advice on their respective expertise. With Meta’s new series of artificial intelligence chatbots, this is possible as the company creates 28 AI assistants that users of WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram can chat with. These 28 virtual chatbots are the realistic alter egos of famous personalities including Mr. Beast, Naomi Osaka, and Tom Brady. In an Instagram post of Meta, users may be able to activate the feature soon in their DMs.

Each alter ego deviates from the real name of the famous personalities they mimic. For example, Paris Hilton is called Amber, Snoop Dogg as Dungeon Master, Kendall Jenner as Billie, and Mr. Beast as Zach. This is because they correspond to a specific role as a chatbot. In a list unveiled by Meta, Paris Hilton is the detective partner of the user for solving whodunnits, Snoop Dogg can help choose the adventure of the user as the Dungeon Master, and Kendall Jenner can give advice as a Big Sister with a ride-or-die approach.

Knowledge base limited to info before 2023

While the 28 AI chatbots derived from famous personalities may sound cool, Meta says that they are still in the early days of their technology. The chatbots’ knowledge base – with the exception of Meta AI, Bru, and Perry – is limited to information that largely existed before 2023, so some responses may not be updated. ‘We aim to bring search to many more of our AIs in the coming months – like we have done with Meta AI – so that conversations can be timely and relevant too,’ Meta adds.

These famous AI chatbots with their distinctive backstories and roles give the users a sense of interacting with them in the digital world. To fully embody their cultural and influencing parts, Meta has even created their own profiles on Instagram and Facebook so that their fans can explore what they are all about. The beta of these new Meta AI chatbots was unveiled on September 27th, 2023, in the US, and as of publishing the story, Meta adds that they will be adding new characters in the coming weeks played by Bear Grylls, Chloe Kim, and Josh Richards, among others.
