mirrorless 47.3 megapixel leica SL2 camera also captures stunning 4K

having set new standards with the original SL camera in 2015, leica is back with its second edition, which is said to merge innovation with pure performance and iconic design. the SL2 is instantly recognizable as a leica with its dark metal form, and its captured imagery is also reminiscent of the brand. the camera presents the future of digital photography and videography with finer ergonomics, technical systems and optic options.

just like its predecessor, the leica SL2 is the only mirrorless camera designed and crafted in germany. its all-metal solid construction is the same size (146 x 107 x 42 mm) but offers increased durability, including IP54 certification with elevated weather sealing. an elegant yet robust leather wrap then straps around the back. the result is a camera that looks sleek whilst still evoking a raw emotion of machinery, as if balanced between being industrially-made or crafted like a timepiece.

starting with its more comfortable grip, the camera’s design and interface have been improved ergonomically to better enable photographers to focus on the creative process. its main parameters can be viewed on the rear display and adjusted quickly and easily with a simple finger tap. a simplified three-button control layout, click wheel and joystick adds to this ease. on the interface, two status menus are dedicated for stills and video recordings.

within, technical and highly innovative improvements have been made to deliver unprecedented image quality. the 47.3 megapixel CMOS image sensor offers enormous dynamic range, a color depth of 14 bits per RGB channel, and a sensitivity of up to ISO 50,000. its object detention AF ensures a reliable autofocus as it automatically detects whether a subject is stationary or in motion, and, in multishot mode, can record up to eight consecutive frames. last but not least, in-body stabilization includes a suspended sensor that adjusts its position to compensate camera shake.

the leica SL2 camera also records stunning film: up to 60 frames per second in cine 4K and up to 180 frames per second in full-HD mode. this is all captured using an ultra-fast maestro III processor. to complete the digital experience, photographers and videographers can use the leica FOTOS app to visualize imagery and change camera settings live via their smartphones. this function enables content to be instantly saved or shared on social networks, too.
