the ‘miscible’ artwork is a telepresence performance that creates an interactive network experience between the society for arts and technology in montréal and le diapason in rennes. the two audiences interact in real time to produce an audiovisual show that investigates a new way of approaching telecommunication activities. three professors-researchers from the université de rennes 1 – specializing in chemistry and electronics- helped build the project as part of the contamine art residency exchange program.

the demonstration enables them to participate together to make different sounds and visual landscapes, by handling a multimedia device that transforms science laboratory material into digital art creations. these members from france and canada execute actions that meet, get gradually more intense and then combine to find a perfect composition. artists manuel chantre and mathieu le sourd, professor-researcher at université de rennes 1 patrick bauchat, developers for métalab’s scénic michal seta and nicolas bouillot were also involved in the virtual proximity experiment.
