mmov multimedia desert expedition

equipped with projectors and media equipment, the ‘mmov’ off-road vehicles bring art and performance to unexpected places

conceptualized by munich-based visual artist markos aristides kern (mar-k.os) of digital media design studio visual drugstore, ‘mmov Ξ’ is an art and multimedia exhibition planned for january 2012 in the north african desert. the concept makes use of the ‘mmov’ (‘multi media offroad vehicle’) fleet designed by visual drugstore for guerrilla projection mapping and DJ and VJ-ing.

‘there is no audience and no set time frame,’ the artists explain; ‘simply improvisation with multimedia art.‘

capable of off-roading with their 6-wheel drive, the ‘mmov’ vehicles are preloaded with up to 24 15,000-lumen projectors, 6 barco HD30 projectors (30,000-lumen), and 35 35,000-lumen projectors, for bright, high-fidelity visual performance for a range of darkness levels and surfaces. additional equipment on the trucks– which have a load capacity of 7.5 tons (15,000 pounds, or 6800 kilograms)– offers the opportunity for DJ-ing and other multimedia installations.

as the performances of ‘mmov Ξ’ will be improvised based on the site and the vehicles’ travels, no footage is yet available from the expedition, but these photographs document the fleet and offer examples of guerrilla projections that the vehicles have previously been involved in.
