California-based startup Moss is conceiving the dubbed first Self-Watering Grow Lamp that can cultivate plants and herbs on its own while illuminating dark spaces with its changeable luminosity. The minimalist design springs first with the lamp’s all-white shade. The lighting design employs a head bowing over the plants or herbs, directly projecting a beam similar to sunlight, so they are cultivated even day and night and without the presence of the sun.

Refillable with nutrients and water for plants and herbs

At the bottom of Moss’ Self-Watering Grow Lamp, a circular base holds up and acts as the plants and herbs’ pot. It is this base too where the user injects the nutrients and refills the water for the plants and herbs, and they simply need to rotate the base to make sure that the greens get enough indoor sunlight from the Self-Watering Grow Lamp’s beam. Since it takes care of the plants, herbs and more (including flowers) on its own, the user only selects the water schedule of the lamp, and it can automatically hydrate the growing foliage.

Expanded clay instead of soil

Moss is using expanded clay for its Self-Watering Grow Lamp to refrain from using chemicals and pesticides that are often used with soil. In this case, the plants and herbs grow organically and without the need for any potentially harmful substances. Moss’ team says that the device also provides customized water schedules, so the user can grow as many types of plants and herbs as they can (within the size and limits of the pot’s teacup-looking dimensions).

So far, Moss, founded by Nicolas Riano and Strahinja Spasojević, added a light intensity range that can go from Plant Growth to Sunset Glow (semi-white light to warm beam). The luminosity can offer ambient lighting to any space the Self-Watering Grow Lamp is in or prevent the plants and herbs from being exposed to too much sunlight (depending on the kind of botanicals planted). As of publishing the story, Moss is working on setting up its campaign to allow fans to learn more about and reserve their Self-Watering Grow Lamp. It is slated to go live on April 16th, 2024.
