50 years on from its launch at the 1969 geneva motor show, porsche celebrates the half century of the 917 racing car with an extensive special exhibition. titled ‘colors of speed – 50 years of the 917’, the museum show has not only restored the first model ever made back to its original condition, but also created a one-off 917 concept study. the red-and-white show car, designed by a small select team, pays homage to the original’s famous victory in the 24 hours of le mans in 1970.

the porsche 917 took the clean sweep at le mans in 1970, leading to a further 24 models being created. it adorned a bodywork of white with a green front section, and has been restored to the same design by porsche. a handful of their museum mechanics, former technicians and engineers helped restore the original, paying great importance to its material, and taking over a year to complete.
